Tiny Spanish hamlet booms, thanks to Gay mayor

I guess this must be the week for charming handsome politicians -- Boys, check OUT this cute boy (Francisco Maroto) who also happens to be Mayor of a tiny little Spanish hamlet called Campillo de Ranas.  After Spain legalized gay marriage in 2005 (BRAVO!!!), some backwards politicians balked. Too bad, cuz they missed out on a major economic opportunity. Maroto said, "come to my town to get married!" and lots of folks, straight and gay, did. Four years later, this hamlet is in economic revival and the subject of a new documentary film, “Campillo Sí, Quiero” (“Campillo Yes, I do”). For more info check out the NYT story:

Francisco Maroto, mayor of tiny Campillo de Ranas, has made the hardscrabble hamlet Spain’s unofficial gay wedding center.

OK if this isn't proof of the need for getting into politics, I don't know what is. (Thanks to my friend Barry for this story!

In Sapphic love,
