OK, Barack, it's time to get gay!

It should be pretty clear to Sapphic Bride readers that I am a fan of Barack Obama. I screamed and danced and cheered and cried in the streets of Seattle last Nov. 4, along with thousands of other Seattlites and milllions worldwide. I LOVE this president, and am SO GRATEFUL to have a respite from those god-awful (literally, invoking an Awful God!) Bush years.

That said, I was so very dissapointed when Obama chose Rick Warren, the ardent ANTI-GAY (i.e. "awful god") activist, to represent some sort of un-holy benediction over Obama's inaguration. Barf!!

Still, people I knew on the "inside", and some of them HRC folks, told me to hold tight and to know that he's working for us ... this coalition building with gay-haters is just part of a longer range plan. OK Barack: I'm ready to hear it now: What's your plan for extending social justice to all regardless of their gender or their libido?

Pres. Obama to Address Lesbian and Gay Rights Issues at HRC Gala

Gays MilitaryThe HRC gala marks the beginning of the National Equality March, to be held in DC this October 10-11th. The March is expected to draw thousands of lesbian and gay rights activists and supporters to the National Mall. Many are critical of President Obama’s weakness in promoting marriage rights for lesbians and gays and his failure to redeem campaign promises to end a ban on gays and lesbians from serving openly in the military.
“Eleven months after his election, he has failed to deliver on any of his commitments to gay Americans, but even worse has been his refusal to engage around these issues,” said Richard Socarides, who advised President Bill Clinton’s administration on gay and lesbian policy.
President Obama has been a disappointment to the lesbian and gay community ever since he invited evangelist Rev. Rick Warren to participate in the presidential inauguration despite Warren’s support for repealing gay marriage in California.
